Renal haemodialysis access

Kidney failure patients need to get a suitable vein for use in haemodialysis. It is always recommended to consult  a vascular surgeon with enough time before the need to start on haemodialysis to have enough time to prepare the dialysis connection and develop poprer maturation of the access, which may take 3 to 6 months. One of the international recommendations is to avoid placing the central veins dialysis catheter (the artificial line in the neck) as much as possible to avoid future narrowing of the veins or infection complications. In our clinic, we examine the patient and we image the veins of the upper extremities and arteries with ultrasound then determine the location of the appropriate site of the planned dialysis access that must be made to ensure the best and fastest results.
